Liverpool Care Pathway

Liverpool Pathway: A National Scandal

I commend you for the amount of work you have done and how stalwart you have been in pointing out the injustice done to your own mother. I want to assure you that you are not alone and your blogs do not go unnoticed.

You have shown that there is a systematic culling of the elderly that despite changes in name, such as LCP to something else, means that the culling goes on relentlessly.

I hope you have the strength to continue your work because the world needs you and your kind.

  1. Since there is a review of the Liverpool Care Pathway in England, the Scottish Government has issued a statement:

Update - Liverpool Care Pathway for the Dying Patient

    July 2013

Following the publication of More Care, Less Pathway – an independent review of the Liverpool Care Pathway undertaken by Baroness Neuberger for NHS England, questions have been raised by NHS Boards and the wider palliative care community about the implications for NHSScotland.

The Scottish Government welcomes the review on the use of the Liverpool Care Pathway and is currently considering the recommendations.

We understand the review has provided a chance for patients, their families and carers experiences to be heard. It is also an opportunity to learn from the experiences of staff involved in providing care for people who are dying.

Recommendations set out in the report will be considered by the Living and Dying Well National Advisory Group, so that any learning for Scotland can be taken forward with stakeholders.

We have advised NHS Boards of the work we are undertaking and a clinical guidance document has been issued. A copy of the document is attached below for reference.

THERE`S ONLY ONE QUESTION I WOULD LIKE TO ASK; How do you review the experience of the dead?
