NHS Lanarkshire Review

NHS Lanarkshire is involving the public in a review of old age psychiatry.  They are asking patients, carers and relatives their views on the best way to improve care for older people with mental health issues.

The review is closely linked to Reshaping Care for Older People - a national programme to improve the way in which care is delivered by inceasing community support and services.

Members of the public are invited to an information session 11am - 12 noon on Thursday 22 August 2013 in St Andrews Parish Church Hall, MOTHERWELL.  HERE

  1. A few questions it would be interesting to ask:

Is dementia of the elderly considered a mental health issue? If it is surely the Mental Health Act should apply rather than the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act which does not offer the same safeguards. For instance there are Mental Health tribunals to appeal to if one is locked up in a hospital against one`s will. There are no such appeal tribunals for those locked in care homes who lack capacity. It`s really important to get this sorted because it is too easy to lock old folk in care homes with no means of escape.
